Edwin P. Suderman, 95, of Shell Knob, passed away Friday, Aug. 21, 2009, at New Mark Care Center, Kansas City.

He was born Sept. 16, 1913, in Hillsboro, Kan. He graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1934 and Bethel College in 1938, with a degree in music. He received his masters of music from George Peabody College, Nashville, Tenn., in 1950. On July 26, 1939, he was united in marriage to Iona V. (Wahl) Suderman. They were married 64 years.

He began teaching in Kansas. He retired from the Kansas City school system in 1977, after 26 years of teaching in several junior and senior high schools. He was also a choir director in Kansas City for 25 years at the Central Christian Church and the North Kansas City First Christian Church. Iona was always his accompanist and organist.

Ed and Iona built their home and retired to Shell Knob in 1977. He served over 23 years in Shell Knob's Central Community United Methodist Church, singing tenor in the choir until age 93. He returned to the Kansas City area to be closer to his daughter in January, 2006.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Iona; daughter, Rita Kay Lind; parents, Peter and Caroline (Hein) Suderman; and nine brothers and sisters and their spouses.

Survivors include: one daughter, Sheryl L. Davis and husband, John, of Liberty; a son-in-law, Richard Lind; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in Central Community United Methodist Church, Shell Knob, under direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Shell Knob. Rev. Teressa Clyde will conduct the services. Burial will be in Lake Park Memorial Gardens, Shell Knob.

The family will receive friends from noon until service time Saturday in the church.
