Samuel David "Sam" Manthei, Sr., 79, of Cassville, passed away Sunday, Aug. 23, 2009, in Springfield.
He was born June 5, 1930, in Wyandotte County, Kan., the son of Herman C. and Mary M. (Utuecht) Manthei. On June 8, 1957, he was united in marriage to Judith "Judy" Lineberry, who survives.
Additional survivors include: one son, Samuel Manthei, Jr., of Freeman; one daughter, Rhonda Manthei, of Cassville; one sister, Gladys Spacek, of Kansas City, Kan.; two grandchildren, Adam Lucas Manthei and Joshua Jacob Manthei; two step-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers and two sisters.
He grew up and received his education in Kansas City. For 30 years he was employed for Union Pacific Railroad in Kansas City, Kan., as a switchman. He also was a Teamsters mechanic for Navaaho Freight Line and Transport Trade. In 1993, he retired and moved to Cassville to make his home. He was a member of the V.F.W. in Kansas City.
Memorial services with military honors will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville. Rev. Don Beeson will conduct the services.
