Harvey J. Higgs, 89, of Exeter, passed away Sunday, Aug. 23, 2009, in St. John's Regional Health Center, Springfield.

He was born in Barry County June 8, 1920, the son of George Harve and Elisabelle (Baker) Higgs. He was united in marriage to Rowena Prier, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and four sisters.

Survivors include: one son, Paul Higgs and his wife, Leta, of Cassville; one daughter, Paula Higgs, of Monett; one stepson, Kenny Key, of Purdy; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was known by his family and friends as Junior. He received his education at the Oklahoma School House in Barry County. He lived his entire life in the Wheaton-Exeter-Cassville area. He raised cattle and farmed most of his life. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II.

Graveside service with military honors were held today (Wednesday) at Maplewood Cemetery, Exeter, under the direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville. Brother Steve Higgs conducted the services.
