Charlotte Marie (Hampton) Hand, 92, of Monett, passed away on Monday, Aug.17, 2009, at her home in Monett following a long illness. She was born on Aug. 31, 1916, in Webb City, the daughter of Wade and Estella (Sheldon) Hampton. She was united in marriage to Charley Hand on Sept. 17, 1932, in Douthat, Okla. They were married almost 60 years until Charley preceded her in death in 1992.

She worked in the Shawnee Mission Post Office for approximately 20 years. She retired in 1979 and moved to Purdy, where she and Charley operated a furniture store at their home for several months in Purdy. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Purdy, where she was baptized on July 3, 1983.

Survivors include: one son, Kenneth Hand, and his wife, Virginia; one daughter, Lorena Wells; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two grandsons.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at the Rocky Comfort Cemetery in Rocky Comfort with Rev. Tony Martin officiating.

The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Compassus of Monett and may be entrusted to the White Funeral Home.
