David Ledford, 78, of Cassville, formerly of Hamilton, Kan., passed away Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2009, at Freeman Hospital in Joplin.

He was born June 5, 1931, in rural Hamilton, Kan., the son of William E. and Millie E. Edwards Ledford. He graduated from Hamilton High School in 1948.

He was a farmer and stockman. He moved to Cassville in 1985, where he owned and operated a truck line until his retirement in 2006.

He was a past member of the Median Shrine and Madison Masonic Lodge.

He was united in marriage to Virginia June Long for 30 years. After their divorce, he married LaVaughn White Yowell on Oct. 12, 1978, in Emporia, Kan. She survives.

Additional survivors include: three sons, William Clay Ledford, of Cimarron, Kan., David Michael Ledford, of Monett, and Steven Ledford, of Cassville; three daughters, Rhonda Finnerty, of Cassville, Rita Bluma, of Emporia, Kan., and Cherri Lopez, of Emporia, Kan.; three stepsons, Gary Yowell, of Topeka, Kan., Rodney Yowell, of Council Grove, Kan., and Brian Yowell, of Hamilton, Kan.; one brother, William E. Ledford, of El Dorado, Kan.; 20 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held Saturday at Janesville Cemetery, west of Hamilton, Kan.
