Hillbilly Tournament celebrates 25 years

Cassville played host to the 25th annual Hillbilly Industrial Golf Tournament on Aug. 6 and 7. A total of 84 golfers gathered at the Cassville Golf Course for the annual event that pays tribute to local industries for their continued support of the Cassville community.

The foursome of Brad Hanson, Jeff Gardner, Billy Lovell and Chester Lenox were the 2009 tournament champions.

Second place winners were: Ron Stafford, Roger McRay, Randy Early and David Cole. Third place honors went to: Ken House, Ryan Stockton, Chris Piatchek and Ed Hankel.

The team with the lowest score on Thursday won a set of putters donated by Barry Electric. Members of that winning team included Larry Nelson, Gavin Chapman, Roger Henady and Butch VonDrehle.

These golfers, pictured above, represented 29 different industries and businesses, which included Justin Brands, Willis Insurance, Hutchens Construction, Arning Canopy Systems, CenturyTel, Casey's General Stores, Freedom Bank, Commerce Bank, Barry Electric, Security Bank, Thorco, Regal Beloit/FASCO, Seneca Companies, George's, Cassville Schools, Hydro Aluminum, Luck E Strike, Barry County Commission, House Handle, Les Jacobs Ford, Cassville Democrat, Midwest Pump and Equipment, Peiker/Piatchek Association, Missouri Gas Energy, Gilbarco, City of Cassville, First State Bank, Hooten Construction and PEMCO Service Co.
Special awards were also presented on both days of the tournament.

Thursday winners were: Donna Lasater, line drive on hole #2; Roger McRay, closest to the pin on #6; J.C. Gillispie, closest to the pin on #8; John Kunze, closest to the pin on #11; Randy Early, closest to the pin on #17; and Curt Roland, longest putt on #18.

Winners on Friday were: Roger Henady, line drive on hole #2; Jeff Gardner and Randy Early, closest to the pin on #6 (both holes in one); James Adams, closest to the pin on #8; Gary Fields, closest to the pin on #11; David Shepherd, closest to the pin on #17; and Jim Peiker, longest putt on #18.

Golfers who participated in the tournament represented 29 different industries and businesses, which included Justin Brands, Willis Insurance, Hutchens Construction, Arning Canopy Systems, CenturyTel, Casey's General Stores, Freedom Bank, Commerce Bank, Barry Electric, Security Bank, Thorco, Regal Beloit/FASCO, Seneca Companies, George's, Cassville Schools, Hydro Aluminum, Luck E Strike, Barry County Commission, House Handle, Les Jacobs Ford, Cassville Democrat, Midwest Pump and Equipment, Peiker/Piatchek Association, Missouri Gas Energy, Gilbarco, City of Cassville, First State Bank, Hooten Construction and PEMCO Service Co.

This year's tournament sponsors were: Justin Brands, Commerce Bank, Freedom Bank, Security Bank, First State Bank, Les Jacobs Ford, City of Cassville, Barry Electric, Arning Canopy Systems, Hutchens Construction, All Points Recycling, Fastrip, Thorco and Luck E Strike. The Cassville Area Chamber of Commerce and the Cassville Industrial Development Corporation also help host the event.

The tournament is planned by a seven-member Hillbilly Golf Tournament Committee, which includes: chairman Randy Stockton, Bob Allen, Gary Whyte, Valarie Hutchens, Mindi Artherton, Mark Smith and Stan Kelley.

Stockton gave special recognition to Allen who has served on the committee since the tournament's inception 25 years ago.

"This year's tournament was another successful event and one to remember," said Stockton. "Bob Allen has served 25 years on the committee, and without his guidance, this event would not be what it is.
