Ada Jo Cain, 79, of Shell Knob, passed away Monday, July 20, 2009, in St. John's Regional Health Center, Springfield.
She was born May 30, 1930, in Starkville, Miss., the daughter of Charles Bertram and Glenye Irene (Halbrook) Cain, who preceded her in death.
She is survived by one brother, Charles Cain, and his wife Myra, of Chapel Hill, N.C.
She grew up and received her education in Whitehaven, Tenn. Following graduation from Whitehaven High School, she continued her education at Mississippi State, where she received her bachelor of science degree in geology. (A tiny geological feature in Yellowstone Park, "Ada's Sink," recognizes her work in mapping remote areas of the park.) She later earned a master's degree in marine biology.
She moved to Shell Knob to make her home in 1999.
