Mary Martha Sands, 82, of Pleasant Hill, formerly of Holden, passed away Monday, July 6, 2009.
She was born Sept. 30, 1926, in Kansas City, Kan., the daughter of Herman C. and Mary (Eutecht) Manthei. She graduated from high school in Kansas City, Kan. On March 13, 1954, she was united in marriage to Earl R. Sands, and he survives.
She worked as a mental health aide for the state of Illinois. After retirement, she and Earl moved to Cassville, where they lived for about 10 years before moving to Iberia. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Iberia.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Mark, on June 4, 1987, and eight brothers and sisters.
Additional survivors include: two sons, Clark Sands and his wife, Carla, of Holden, and Greg Sands and his wife, Paula, of Iberia; one brother, Sam Manthei, of Eagle Rock; one sister, Gladys Spacek, of Kansas City, Kan.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A memorial services was held on Saturday, July 11 at the New Life Christian Church in Holden with Pastor Dwight Decker officiating.
Cremation and services were under the direction of Wallace Funeral Home, Pleasant Hill.
