Youngsters brave heat to compete at local fair

Cute competitor Democrat Photo Zoie Coupland, of Cassville, earned a junior grand champion ribbon after showing her Oberhasli dairy goat at the 2009 Barry County Fair on June 26. Coupland also earned the Best Junior Doe in Show Award and a participation ribbon for pee wee showmanship.

Extreme heat couldn't keep area youngsters away from the 2009 Barry County Fair, which was held at Gizmo's Event Center in Wheaton. Hundreds of competitors turned out to show dairy cattle, goats, rabbits, chickens and beef cattle on June 25, 26 and 27.

Results from several of the show competitions are listed below. Additional fair results will appear in future editions of the Cassville Democrat.

Dairy goats

Alpine: Audrey Jo Shockley, senior grand champion and senior reserve champion.

Nubian: Shockley, junior grand champion.

Toggenburg: Kayla Stewart, senior grand champion and junior grand champion; and Tammy Jo Stewart, senior reserve champion.

Recorded grade: Mary Beth Allen, senior grand champion; and Korey Banks, senior reserve champion and junior grand champion.

Oberhasli: Clifford Stewart, senior grand champion; Sarah Allen, senior reserve champion; and Zoie Coupland, junior grand champion.
