Billy Ray Bishop, 71, of Shell Knob, passed away Thursday, June 11, 2009, in St. John's Hospital, Berryville, Ark.

He was born Aug. 16, 1937, in North Kansas City, the son of Len and Cecelia (Conner) Bishop. On Feb. 13, 1958, in Leavenworth, Kan., he was united in marriage to Evelyn JoAnne "Jody" Bynan, who survives.

Additional survivors include: three sons, Robert Wesley Bishop and his wife, Robin, of Shell Knob, David Lynn Bishop and his wife, Cindy, of Louisburg, Kan., and William Alan Bishop and his wife, Lisa, of Shell Knob; one daughter, Nancy JoAnne Reed and her husband, Steve, of Leavenworth, Kan.; two brothers, Cecil B. Myers and his wife, Judy, of St. Joseph, and Mike Peterson and his wife, Jan, of Shell Knob; two sisters, JoAnne McCloud and her husband, Donal, of Gilmore, and Diane Lindsay and her husband, Paul, of North Kansas City; 10 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, twin daughters and one sister.

He received his education at Rich Hill and Cole Camp. For many years he was in the maintenance department for Cecil Myers Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep in Aurora. He served in the United States Marine Corp. He was a member of Eagles Lodge, Masonic Lodge and was a Shriner.

Funeral services with military honors were held Saturday in Fohn Funeral Home, Shell Knob. Rev. Bob Gaddis conducted the services.

Masonic services were held at 6 p.m. conducted by Central Crossing Masonic Lodge #674.
