Truman Joseph (TJ) Smading, 85, of El Dorado Springs, passed away Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at Christian Healthcare, Nixa.

He was born Feb. 4, 1924, in Quinton, Okla., to Charles Raymond and Emma (Hogan) Smading.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving his country from 1943 to 1946. He served as an armed guard gunner during the war, attaining the rank of 2nd Class Boswainmate.

He was united in marriage to roberta Belle Moore in June 1947. To this union four children were born. The family lived in Cassville from 1959 to 1973, where he was manager of Southwest Telephone Co. and also served as president of the Cassville Chamber of Commerce two different terms. He was active in the Lions Club and the VFW.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Roberta; two brothers, Lewis and Ralph; and five sisters, Alma, Frankie, Opal, Olive and Dottie.

Survivors include: his two sons, Michael and Robert; two daughters, Patricia and Vicki; 13 grandchildren; and 25 grea-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held June 5 at the Moore Cemetery, Nevada.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Lions Club or the VFW in El Dorado Springs.

Arrangements were under the direction of Sheldon funeral Home, El Dorado Springs.
