Relton E. Tate, 75, of Shell Knob, passed away Sunday, April 26, 2009, in Carroll County Nursing and Rehab Center, Berryville, Ark.

He was born June 6, 1933, in Walnut Ridge, Ark., the son of William Wayne and Esther Frances (Berry) Tate. On Aug. 14, 1954, he was united in marriage to Kathryn Foreman, who survives.

Additional survivors inlcude: one son, David Tate and his wife, Kim, of Shell Knob; one daughter, Sharla Schlotthauer and her husband, Joel, of Wichita, Kan.; three brothers, Darrell Tate, of Walnut Ridge, Ark., Bob Tate, of Walnut Ridge, Ark., and Bill Tate, of Rockford, Ill.; three sisters, Jean Denton, of Delaplane, Ark., Mary Raper, of Walnut Ridge, Ark., and Robin Pierce, of Walnut Ridge, Ark.; four grandchildren; and one stepgrandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He received his education in Arkansas. In 1951, he moved to Wichita, Kan., and worked for the City of Wichita in the Forestry Department for 30 years. After his retirement from the Forestry Department, he worked at Friends University for 10 years in maintenance. In 1995, he moved to Shell Knob to make his home. He was a member of the Trinity Presbyterian Church of Shell Knob.

Funeral services were held today (Wednesday) in Trinity Presbyterian Church, Shell Knob under direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Shell Knob. Rev. Chris Williams conducted the services.

Burial will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in Resurrection Cemetery, Wichita, Kan.
