James Lee Wakeland, 66, of Grove, Okla., passed away Sunday, March 1, 2009, at Grove General Hospital in Grove, Okla. He was born in New Rockford, N.D., on April 4, 1942, the son of the late James A. and Connie B. (Mauch) Wakeland. He was raised on a farm in Lamar, Colo.
He was the husband of Janice (Palmer) Wakeland. Jim and Janice were married on June 14, 1963, in Mulvane, Kan. He and his family moved to Grove, Okla., in 1979 from Shell Knob. He worked for Boeing Aircraft for eight years in Wichita, Kan. He later moved to Table Rock Lake were he operated a fishing guide service and operated the Viola Boatdock Marina. He went on to work at Johnson Motor Repair and Viola Boat and Dock Marina. He was called into ministry in 1979. Jim founded New Life Family Worship Center in June of 1995.
He was preceded in death by his infant sister, Sheila, and his parents.
survivors include: his wife, Janice; one daughter, Dawn Threet and her husband, Randy, of Grove, Okla.; two sons, Shane Wakeland and his wife, Mollie, of Grove, Okla., and Lance Wakeland and Anneke, of Jay, Okla.; one sister, Sandy Little, of Romeoville, Ill.; one brother, Terry Wakeland, of Shell Knob; 14 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services were held March 6 at Cornerstone Church in Grove, Okla. Officiating were Bro. Junior Dotson, Bro. Bob Rabel and Bro. David Killingsworth.
