Joan Vanderpool, 75, of Butterfield, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2009, in St. John's Regional Health Center, Springfield.
She was born Feb. 20, 1933, in St. Paul, Kan., the daughter of Arthur and Nettie (Dawson) Pierce. On Nov. 2, 1951, she was united in marriage to Nick Joe Vanderpool, who preceded her in death on April 13, 1998. She was also preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include: two sons, Rick Vanderpool and his wife, Charlie, of Purdy, and Randy Vanderpool and his wife, Machelle, of Purdy; two daughters, Vicky Daniel and her husband, Jerry, of Purdy and Donna Vanderpool, of Springfield; two brothers, George Pierce and his wife, Becky, of Topeka, Kan., and Bill Pierce and his wife, Judy, of Denver, Colo.; one sister, Arlene Rooks, of Pittsburg, Kan.; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She received her education at Walnut School in Kansas and graduated from Girard High School in Girard, Kan. In 1951, after her marriage to Nick Joe, they moved to Missouri to make their home and ran Nick's Caravan West, the Rainbow Dinner House and then owned and operated Granny Jo's Café in Purdy. She worked at Walmart in the shoe department for a time and later as a greeter. She was of the Baptist faith.
Funeral services were held Saturday in Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville. Rev. Glenn Erwin and Rev. J.R. Day conducted the services. Burial was at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Butterfield.
