After a promising 4-0 start for the season, the Southwest Lady Trojans are mired in a 3-10 slump. Like Howard Hughes' famous Spruce Goose, Southwest had an impressive early rise but has yet to really take off again
The latest blow was struck by the McAuley Lady Warriors, 60-40 winners in Southwest's gym on Tuesday, Feb. 10.
The Lady Trojans scored only 9 points in each of the first three quarters and 13 in the fourth. McAuley took control early and inexorably kept building the lead throughout the game, leading 17-9, 35-18 and 49-27 at the breaks enroute to the 60-40 final tally.
Playing without both Tina Schreiner and Stacy Hobbs, Southwest's already meager bench was stretched to the max against McAuley's pressure defense. While Chelsea Sneed and Kirstie Ickes both managed 13 points for Southwest, the point production was woefully short compared to the Lady Warriors.
Southwest now stands at 7-10 for the season and has a 2-5 mark in conference play.
