CHS grad accepts new municipal post

Thursday, February 19, 2009

A Cassville High School graduate has been named to the top administrator's post at Oak Grove. Steven Craig, son of Jim and Diane Craig, of Cassville, has been hired as city administrator for the city of 6,500, which is located 28 miles east of Kansas City on Interstate 70.

Craig, 28, will be coming to Oak Grove after serving as Camdenton city administrator for a little more than a year and half. In that capacity, Craig supervised 42 full-time and 25 seasonal employees.

Craig has also worked as assistant city administrator and economic development director at Camdenton and as director of economic development for the City of Cabool.

The 1999 CHS graduate holds a bachelors degree in political science and a masters degree in public administration from Missouri State University in Springfield.

When Craig takes over at Oak Grove on Feb. 23, he will be filling a post that has been vacant for six months.

Craig said his interest in city government was sparked when his dad served three terms as mayor of the City of Cassville. Craig also appreciates the benefits of living in a smaller town like the community where he was raised.
