Effie Irene Johnson, 95, of Arkansas City, Kan., passed away on Thursday, Jan. 29, 2009, at the Medical Lodge East Nursing Home in Arkansas City, Kan. She was born Jan. 6, 1913, in Viola, the daughter of Arthur and Annie (Collins) Allen. She moved to Arkansas City, Kan., in 1934 and moved to Missouri after her mother passed in 1966. She then helped her father on the farm and owned her own farm in Purdy. In 1972, she returned to Arkansas City, Kan., where she owned and operated restaurants, 5th Avenue Café, Johnson's Serveteria and BonTon Café to name a few. She was a Christian. On Aug. 20, 1950, she married Don Johnson in Arkansas City, Kan. He preceded her in death on Dec. 26, 1967.

Survivors include: her son Martin King, of Arkansas City, Kan.; one sister, Lois Buckley; three brothers, George, Emmett and Kenneth Allen; four grandchildren, 14 great- grandchildren; and three great- great-grandchildren.

Her parents, one son, Lee Roy King, one grandson, two sisters and three brothers also preceded her in death.

Graveside services were were held Tuesday under the direction of the Crafton-Cantrell Funeral Home at the McGuire Cemetery.
