Wheaton council makes appointments

The Wheaton City Council appointed representatives to the Southwest Missouri Solid Waste Management District at its regularly scheduled meeting on Jan. 6.

The aldermen appointed city employee Bob Lombard as Wheaton's representative. City employee Jerry McBride will serve as an alternate representative.

In other business, the Wheaton City Council:

* Directed City Clerk Marianne Witt to invite Wa Yang, Southwest Missouri Hmong Association president, and David Cole, city attorney, to the council's next meeting on Feb. 3. The council plans to discuss the Hmong Association's interest in purchasing the rodeo grounds.

* Amended an ordinance that regulates liquor stores in the Wheaton city limits.

* Voted to cash two certificates of deposit and place the funds in the city's general account.

* Adopted the 2009 budget
