R-VI board receives project update

Thursday, January 22, 2009

On Dec. 10, 2008, the Exeter R-VI School Board heard that a portion of the district's building project has been completed. According to Superintendent Tina Nolan, students began moving into the classrooms that were constructed in the school's old cafeteria in December of 2008.

In addition to three new classrooms, the renovated cafeteria facility now houses the district's elementary and central offices. Parents and individuals visiting the elementary school should use the new entrance on the east side of the campus to access the elementary wing.

The board approved a $122,390.58 construction payment to Springfield Builders Incorporated, which renovated the cafeteria building and is completing construction on a new 12,000-square-foot multipurpose facility on the Exeter campus.

When the new multipurpose building is complete, it will be used as a cafeteria, meeting room and practice gymnasium. The facility will also house a speech and drama classroom, a small concessions area, a music room, a state-of-the-art kitchen and storage areas.

Voters approved a $1.1 million general obligation bond issue that helped finance the building project in April of 2007.

In other business, the Exeter R-VI School Board:

* Heard administrative reports, which showed that high school attendance was at 94 percent and middle school attendance was at 95 percent in November of 2008.

*Received reports on the special education, guidance and counseling and athletic programs.
