Clara Belle Pointer, 73, of Wheaton, passed away Thursday, Jan. 15, 2009, in St. John's Regional Health Center, Springfield.

She was born Jan. 17, 1935, in Ordway, Colo., the daughter of Henry and Pauline (Becker) Steinmetz. On July 29, 1952, she was united in marriage to Ernest Lloyd Pointer, who preceded her in death on March 15, 1985. She was also preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include: three sons, Ernest Pointer, Jr. and his wife, Jackie, of Gravette, Ark., Carey Pointer and his wife, Kathy, and Henry Pointer and his wife, Trisha, all of Wheaton; four daughters, Sandra Anthony, of Monett, and Tamela Pointer, and Gail Pointer, both of Cassville, and Patricia Crouch and her husband, Glenn, of Monett; two sisters, Rose Sears, of Pueblo, Colo., and Peggy Harris and her husband, Kenneth, of Grants Pass, Ore.; 19 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Clara received her education in Ordway, Colo. She lived in Albuquerque, N.M., for a time then moved to the Wheaton area 40 years ago. She worked as a punch press operator at Fasco Industries in Cassville for several years. She was a member of Simco Freewill Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held Monday in McQueen Funeral Home, Wheaton. Burial was at Muncie Chapel Cemetery, Wheaton. Rev. John Henry conducted the services.
