Local runners issue challenge for new year
A challenge has been issued to runners and those who want to become runners. The Cassville Running Club, led by Daron and Jennifer Evans, is looking for local residents who would like to run a half-marathon or full marathon in 2009.
"Our goal is for you to run comfortably through the whole event and smile at the finish line," said Daron. "It can be done if you train smart."
The Evanses are offering to help prepare each runner by providing them with a personal training schedule designed to assist each individual in accomplishing their running goals in an enjoyable manner.
"We have targeted the 2009 St. Jude's Memphis Marathon for our goal," said Daron. "The race is in the first week of December, which gives a person of any ability level time to train for completing the race comfortably."
Runners will also be challenged to raise money for St. Jude's Hospital as part of the training.
An informational meeting will be held on Saturday, Jan. 31 for anyone interested in taking the Evanses up on their challenge. Anyone interested in participating should contact Daron and Jennifer by e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org or by phone at 846-1524.
According to Daron, the challenge is open to beginning and experienced runners alike. The running plans for most individuals will involve three days of training a week. The training can be completed as a group or individually.
"We'll be checking on people along the way," said Daron. "We'll coach you through it."
Local runners will also have the opportunity to compete in a 5K race and a 10K race during the year-long training cycle.
"This way you'll know what to expect in a race environment," said Daron. "After doing a 5K and a 10K, the next natural step is a half-marathon."
