Fanschon (Hess) Mitchell, age 88, of Seligman, Missouri, passed away Thursday, December 25, 2008, in her home.

She was born June 6, 1920, in Arkinda, Arkansas, the daughter of Jake and Mary Ora (White) Hess. On May 31, 1942, she was united in marriage to Carl Webb Mitchell and to this union three children were born. Fanschon grew up and received her education in Seligman, where she graduated from high school. During World War II she worked for McDonald Douglas in Tulsa, Oklahoma. For twenty-six years she was employed for the Postal Service's, from which she retired. Fanschon was a very active member of Seligman First Baptist Church, serving as pianist over fifty years and church clerk. She helped write "The First 100 Years of Seligman." Her favorite past times were her crafts, sewing, knitting, crocheting, cooking and gardening, always keeping her hands busy.

She is survived by her husband of sixty-six years, Carl; two sons, Mickey L. Mitchell of Rowlett, Texas and Richard L. Mitchell and his wife, Linda of Washburn, Missouri; one daughter, Carla Sue Garner and her husband, Rodger of Seligman; three grandsons, Todd Mitchell and his wife, Karen, Tony Mitchell and his wife, Leah and Hesston Comer and his wife, Cara; six great granddaughters and one great grandson, Lauren Taylor, Morgan Nicole, Carlee Mae, Lindee Jayne, Langston Jolee, Joshua Brian and Emily Jade; two brothers, Rudolph Hess of Scottsdale, Arizona and Jerry Hess of Anchorage, Alaska and one sister, Patsy Hodges of Gallup, New Mexico.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Haskell and Dalton Hess and a daughter-in-law, Nancy Mitchell.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 30, 2008, in Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville. Reverend Bob Neeley and Brother John Edwards conducted the services. Burial was at Seligman Cemetery.

The family received friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Monday in Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville.
