Foundation nearing fundraising goal

Thursday, December 18, 2008

With two weeks left in its fundraising campaign, the Cassville Community Foundation is over two-thirds of the way toward its goal of raising $25,000 locally.

All funds raised during this latest campaign will be matched dollar for dollar through the Community Foundation of the Ozarks' Harry Cooper Challenge. To date, the local Foundation has raised $18,000 from businesses and individuals, which translates into $36,000 for the Foundation.

Landon Fletcher, chairman of the Cassville Community Foundation Board, is confident the organization will be able to meet the goal of raising $25,000 it set forth back in late October.

"We still have a lot of pledges out there that we haven't received yet, and I hope sometime in the near future we'll be celebrating the completion of a successful fundraising campaign," Fletcher said.

"We have had fantastic community support and these contributions will benefit the Foundation for many years," Fletcher added. "This money will allow us to continue to give out Foundation grants to worthy community efforts."

So far this year, the Foundation has awarded $500 grants to the Cassville R-IV School District's Back Pack Program, Habitat for Humanity of South Barry County and the United Methodist Church's food pantry. Additional grants will be awarded this week.

The Cassville Community Foundation is one of 40 regional affliate foundations that operate under the umbrella of the Community Foundation of the Ozarks (CFO).

For the 2008 fiscal year, the Cassville Community Foundation received $178,518 in contributions and paid out $1,650 in grants and distributions, according to a recent annual report issued by CFO.

Three new funds were established with the Cassville Community Foundation during 2008. Currently, the Foundation consists of four funds with total assets of $159,136.

The money raised through the Harry Cooper Challenge benefits the Foundation's local grant-making endowment fund. Interest from this fund will continue to be used to support local community groups and their projects.

The Cassville Foundation Board includes Landon Fletcher, Susie Jacobs, Phil Hutchens, Mike McCracken, Dennis Baker, Angela Seymour, Gary Fields, Jerry Marple and Dan Angel. Amy White serves as the Foundation's secretary. For more information about the Cassville Community Foundation, contact any of the board members.
