Cassville soccer star earns All-State honor
Cassville's Uziel Franco was named to the Class 2 All-State first team by the Missouri State Soccer Coaches Association.
This season, the talented senior scored 48 of the team's 96 goals and assisted on eight others. Franco now holds school records for career goals with 103, season goals with 48 and most goals in a game with seven.
"It is obvious that Uziel will be highly missed in soccer next year," said Coach Brian Wilbanks. "Having such a talented player on the team has made coaching easier for me.
"I am really proud of him," added Coach Wilbanks. "He is a great player and person, and I hope his dreams of playing soccer at some professional level come true."
In addition to earning All-State honors, Franco was named the All-District and All-Region first teams and was named the region's offensive MVP. Last year, Franco earned All-State second team honors.
Franco is the third Wildcat player in the soccer program's nine-year history to earn All-State first team recognition. Nick Schlichtman and Kyle Bishop were named the All-State first team in 2005.
Other Cassville soccer players who earned All-State honors include: Nate Evans, All-State second team in 2005 and honorable mention in 2006; Ryan Schlichtman, All-State second team in 2006 and 2007; and Jordan Ball, All-State honorable mention in 2004.
