CMS Ladycats defeat Mt. Vernon

The Cassville Middle School Ladycat basketball teams picked up big wins over Mt. Vernon last week.

The eighth grade squad downed the Lady Mountaineers 36-27 and picked up their fifth conference win. Currently, the eighth graders are undefeated in the Big 8 and enjoy a 10-1 overall record.

Against Mt. Vernon, Emily Speakman came out strong, scoring 16 of her team-high 21 points in the first quarter. Kimberly Orrell tallied 10 points and eight assists in the win, and Katie Hughes contributed seven rebounds and four blocked shots.

Speakman and Keisha Corn were credited with five rebounds each, and Ali Hanson provided two steals.

The Cassville seventh graders earned a 30-19 victory over Mt. Vernon.

Top point-getters for the Ladycats were: Lindsey Nolan, 10 points; Sydney Curnes, 8; Mikala Deffenbaugh, 6; and Calie Woolhiser and Katelyn Pitts, 4 each.

The Cassville seventh graders' record now stands at 3-6 for the season.
