Donald W. "Don" Hixon, 78, of Eagle Rock, passed away Friday, Dec. 5, 2008, in his home.
He was born Aug. 16, 1930, in Altoona, Kan., the son of William Edward and Lela May (Hare) Hixon. On Oct. 21, 1956, he was united in marriage to Margaret Ruth Anderson, who preceded him in death on Feb. 24, 1992. He was also preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include: one son, Dale Hixon and his wife, Brenda, of Guthrie, Okla.; three daughters, Carol Watkins and her husband, Richard, of Tulsa, Okla., Susan Bumsted and her husband, David, of Wichita, Kan., and Kathy Jackman, of Wichita, Kan.; nine grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
He grew up and received his education in Altoona, Kan., where he graduated from high school. From Jan. 11, 1949, until Jan. 10, 1950, he served in the United States Navy. For 25 years he worked for the Wichita Fire Department, from which he retired. He owned and operated Hixon Inc., a lawn mower shop in Wichita, Kan., for several years. After moving to Eagle Rock in 1977, he became owner and operator of AMHS Inc. Storage and Custom Boat Dock Builders. He was a member of the Eagle Rock -- Golden -- Mano Fire Department, where he served until his death. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge in Wichita, Kan., the Scottish Rite and Shell Knob Shrine Club.
Funeral services were held today (Wednesday) in Lighthouse Pentecostal Church, Eagle Rock, under direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville. Pastor Jim Clay conducted the services.
Graveside services with military honors were held Thursday in Resthaven Cemetery, Wichita, Kan. Pastor Jim Clay conducted the services.
