Edith May Purdom, 90, of El Dorado Springs, formerly of Jenkins, passed away Friday, Nov. 28, 2008, in Community Springs Healthcare in El Dorado Springs.

She was born April 14, 1918, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the daughter of William and Lora (Atwood) Whitehead. On February 16, 1951, in Bentonville, Ark., she was united in marriage to Lester T. Purdom, Sr., who preceded her in death on November 20, 1993. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a stepson, Lester Purdom, Jr. and two brothers, Billy and Charles Whitehead.

Survivors include: three sons, Billy Purdom and his wife, Marcy, of Jacksonville, Miss., Robert Purdom, of Cassville, and Richard Purdom and his wife, Jeannie, of El Dorado Springs; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She graduated from high school in Springfield, and received her bachelor of science degree in nursing from Peabody University in Tennessee. She worked at the Barry County Health Department for 25 years. She was a member of the Barry County Teachers Association and Registered Nurses Association. In 2002, she moved to El Dorado Springs, to be close to her son, Richard, and his family.

Graveside services were held Monday at Clio Cemetery, Jenkins, under the direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville. Pastor Tim Blankenship conducted the services.
