J.C. Tipton, 81, of Cassville, passed away Friday, Nov. 28, 2008, in Red Rose Inn of Cassville.
He was born Jan. 4, 1927, in Wichita Falls, Texas, the son of Harry L. and Leona (Wright) Tipton. On May 28, 1959, in Hobbs, N.M., he was united in marriage to Wanda Mae DeWitt, who preceded him in death on May 26, 2002. He was also preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Travis Tipton and Ernest Tipton; one sister, Nettie King and a grandson, Kevin.
Survivors include: two sons, Donnie G. Norman, of Cassville, and Lonnie D. Norman, of Stella; three brothers, Tommy Tipton, of the state of California, Kenneth Tipton, of Long Beach, Calif., and Harry Tipton, Jr., of Austin, Texas; two sisters, Nadine Zimmerman, of Spokane, Wash., and Naomi Davidson, of Castle Rock, Colo.; four grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
He received his education in Hobbs, N.M., where he graduated from high school. He joined the United States Navy during World War II, serving from Jan. 24, 1945, until July 19, 1946. He then began working as a clerk for the post office in Hobbs, N.M., remaining there until his retirement in 1992. In 1995, he moved to Missouri to make his home. He was of the Baptist faith.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Washburn, under direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville. Pastor Doyle Russell conducted the services. Burial was at Roller Cemetery, Washburn.
