The Barry County Sheriff's Department is continuing its holiday tradition of sponsoring an Angel Tree that includes the names of individual children and families who need extra help this Christmas season.
Department personnel will be accepting monetary contributions as well as donations of blankets, towelss, washclothes and other household items. Any money contributed to the cause will be used to purchase food items that will allow families to enjoy a nice Christmas dinner.
All businesses, individuals or families who participate in the Angel Tree project will receive a cerificate from the sheriff's office. All donations can be dropped off at the sheriff's office, which is located next to the Barry County Jail.
To help raise money for the Angel Tree, the sheriff's office is also holding a drawing for a cedar rocking chair and cedar glider. The items are handmade by one of the sheriff's deputies with metal used to create the chair and glider donated by Vollenweider Metal Works.
Tickets for the drawings may be purchased at the sheriff's office between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, or at reception area at the jail from 4 to 10 p.m.
