Claude Francis Stevens, 67, passed away Nov. 5, 2008, at Ochsner Hospital in Baton Rouge, La. He was born on June 15, 1941, in Memphis, Texas, to the late Claud Edward Stevens and Mary Frances Ross.
He joined the Mineral Springs Baptist Church near Cassville at a young age. He later graduated from high school in Cassville. He attended West Texas State University in Canyon, Texas. He later attended Defense Mapping School in Fort Belboir, Va. He was united with Carolyn Prater in April of 1994. He worked for the U.S. Department of Commerce, NOAA/National Geodetic Survey for 35 years of service. He earned numerous awards and certificates throughout his career.
Survivors include: his wife of 17 years, Carolyn Prater, of Baton Rouge, La.; six sons, Jeff Stevens, of Florida, Justin Stevens and Jamie Stevens, of La Junta, Colo., Harry Prater Jr., Rodrick Prater, Brandon Prater, and Morlan Prater, all of Baton Rouge, La.; one daughter, Shanda Pery, of Peoria, Ill.; one brother, Bill Day, and his wife, Jeanetta, of Russellville, Ark.; six grandsons; and two granddaughters. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Brandon Stevens.
Graveside services were held on Friday at the Mineral Springs Cemetery, Cassville, with words of comfort spoken by Bob Mizer.
