Darrell D. Burger, 82, of Cassville, formerly of Harlan, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2008, at Cox South Medical Center in Springfield.
He was born on Aug. 8, 1926, in Redline, Iowa, the son of Otis and Helen (Erickson) Burger. He was united in marriage to Clara Irene Johansen on Aug. 1, 1943. To this union five children were born. Clara preceded him in death in August of 1970. In the early 1960s, he opened Harlan Mechanical Contractor, which he owned and operated until his retirement in 2000. He married Marcia (Stofferson) Findlay in a quiet ceremony on May 19, 1975, in Omaha, Neb. She survives.
He served as a past city councilman and mayor for Harlan. he was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ in Harlan. Darrell and Marcia moved to Cassville in 2000.
Additional survivors include: two sons, Ron Burger, of Malvern, Iowa, and Tom Burger, of Los Angeles, Calif.; three daughters, Sandra Kopta, of Greenbelt, Md., Patricia Nordby, and her husband, Marvin, of Salida, Colo., and Judy Will, of Malvern, Iowa; four stepsons, William Findlay, of Minatare, Neb., Mark Findlay, of Harlan, Iowa, Cole Findlay, of Harlan, Iowa, and David Findlay, of Persia, Iowa; one sister, Marjorie Leinen, of Papillion, Neb.; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 11 step-grandchildren; and 14 great-step-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at a later date in Harlan, Iowa. Contributions may be made to the American Lung Association.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of the White Funeral Home, Cassville.
