Veterans to be honored

Veterans Day events are planned at several area school districts next Tuesday, Nov. 11. Once again, it will be students taking the lead in honoring local men and women who have served the United States in uniform.

Cassville High School will continue its tradition of hosting a Veterans Day Assembly. This year's event will begin at 9 a.m. in the CHS gym.

All veterans and their families are invited to attend. A reception will be held immediately following the ceremony, which will include patriotic performances by high school band, choir and speech students. Winning Veterans Day essays will also be read.

Veterans who attend the ceremony will receive special recognition for their service. For more information, call the high school office at 847-3137.

Wheaton R-III School District will hold a Veterans Day Assembly at 9 a.m. on Nov. 11. All area veterans are invited to attend this event.

Wheaton High School will be hosting a special dinner for local veterans in honor of Veterans Day. The meal will be served at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 11 in the high school Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS) classroom.

After the dinner, a presentation to honor veterans and their many contributions will be held. All veterans, their families and other members of the Wheaton community are invited to attend.

Southwest R-V School District will be celebrating Veterans Day with a special assembly at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 11 in the high school gym. All veterans are invited to attend and are asked to gather at the high school at 1 p.m. Community members are also welcome to attend the Veterans Day celebration.

Other events

* All seniors 60 or over will be treated to a free lunch at the Cassville Senior Center on Wednesday, Nov. 12. Louis Metz, of Sater Pharmacy, is sponsoring the lunch to honor area veterans and seniors. Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

* On Sunday, Nov. 9, Community Faith Chapel in Cassville will honor active and retired military personnel with a special service at 1:30 p.m. Colonel Michele Melton with the Missouri National Guard will be the guest speaker and special music will be provided by Denney and Missy Wolf and Jeff Culver. All past and present military members are invited to attend the service and be recognized. Community Faith Chapel is located at the intersection of Highway 248 and 13th Street in Cassville.
