Pauline Elizabeth Preddy, 87, of Cassville, passed away Thursday, Oct. 30, 2008, at Sonshine Manor in Republic, following a long illness.

She was born at Greensburg, Kan., June 11, 1921, the daughter of Walter and Gretchen (Krug) Boyd. She was united in marriage Aug. 24, 1940, at Mt. Vernon, to Gerald Preddy, who preceded her in death on Aug. 11, 1998. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a son, Daniel Boyd Preddy and a daughter, Jerry McGuire.

She grew up and received her education in Kansas, where she graduated from high school. After she and Gerald were married, they lived in Michigan before moving to Exeter, where they owned and operated the Exeter Telephone Exchange from 1945 until 1952. She began her career with Avon while they lived in Michigan. She was promoted to district manager two years before they came back to Missouri. She loved working for Avon and was disappointed that the company was not yet in Missouri when the family returned to Cassville in 1956. However, when Avon arrived in Missouri Pauline started working for them again and continued for the next 35 years, until she became a resident of Sonshine Manor. She was a very good business woman who also worked for both her husband and son, Leonard, at Cassville Tool and L.P. Machine as their bookkeeper. She was an active member of First Christian Church, Cassville, for many years.

Survivors include: one son, Leonard Preddy and his wife, Nancy, of Cassville; two daughters, Jane Bekemeier and her husband, Jim, of Republic, and Judy Garrison and her husband, Bill, of Leesburg, Fla.; one brother, Bill Boyd, of the state of Michigan; two sisters, Nadine Holder, of Scott City, and Yvonne Mallard, of Scott City; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Sunday in Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville. Rev. Bert Ward and Minister Sid Allsbury conducted the services. Burial was at Horner Cemetery, Cassville.

Contribution may be made to the American Cancer Society in her memory and left at the funeral home.
