Service group accepting award nominations

Soroptimist International of Barry County is now accepting applications for the Violet Richardson Award and the Women's Opportunity Award.

The Violet Richardson Award will be presented to a young woman between the ages of 14 and 17. The recipient will be honored for volunteer work that is associated with fighting drugs, crime and violence, cleaning up the environment or ending discrimination and poverty.

The Violet Richardson Award winner will receive a $300 prize and become eligible for a $1,000 regional award.

The Women's Opportunity Award will recognize a woman who serves as the primary wage earner for her family and is seeking financial assistance to complete post-secondary education.

The Women's Opportunity Award winner will receive a $300 cash grant and be nominated for a regional award that is worth $5,000. The grant award can be used to pay tuition costs, purchase books or fund other education-related expenses.

Applications for both awards are available at Freedom Bank and First State Bank in Cassville and the Cassville Branch Library. Applications for the Violet Richardson Award can also be obtained at the Cassville High School counselor's office, and applications for the Women's Opportunity Award are available at the Crowder College Cassville Center.

Completed applications should be returned to Beth Hudson at Freedom Bank in Cassville. Applications can also be mailed to Freedom Bank, P.O. Box 309, Cassville, Mo., 65625. All applications must be received by Dec. 1.
