Soccer 'Cats continue winning
Last Thursday's game against Aurora proved to be a big night for senior Uziel Franco. The forward scored seven goals in Cassville's 10-1 victory to claim the school record for most goals scored in a game. His seven goals also gave him a career goal total of 82, which set another school record.
The records Franco broke were held by Ryan Schlichtman, a 2007 graduate of Cassville High School, who scored six goals in a game and tallied 77 career goals during his four-year career. Schlichtman now plays soccer at Colorado Christian University in Denver.
In the win over Aurora, goals were also scored by Luis Ortega, Bryan Schroeder and Jesus Rivera. Oto Franco and Matt Angel were credited with assists in the win.
On Saturday, the Wildcats hosted Neosho and earned a 4-1 win. Uziel Franco scored three goals and Ortega put one in the net. Angel, playing another strong game at midfield for the 'Cats, had an assist in the contest.
Cassville is now 12-6 on the season. The Wildcats have earned the number three seed in the district tournament, which opens this weekend at Bolivar High School. Cassville is scheduled to play West Plains at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
In jayvee action this past week, Cassville beat Aurora 2-0 with goals scored by Oto Franco and Jeff Munday. The young 'Cats also defeated Neosho 1-0. Oto Franco had the lone goal in that game.
