Rudolph Harris, age 82, of Washburn, Missouri, went to be with his Lord Sunday, October 26, 2008, surrounded by his family and friends in St. John's in Springfield.
He was born June 29, 1926, in Cape Fair, the son of Ross and Lena (Foster) Harris. On June 21, 1947, in Columbus, Kansas, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Norma Jean Bruton, who survives.
He is also survived by two sons, Randy Harris and his wife, Patsy, of Berwyn, Illinois, and Rudy Harris and his wife, Linda, of Cassville; two daughters, Paula Jean Harris-Collins and her husband, Patrick, of Cassville, and Beverly Jo Ledford and her fiancÚ, Lyle Leach, of Cassville; a daughter-in-law, Ilene Harris, of Pea Ridge, Arkansas; one brother, John Harris and his wife, Jan, of Springfield; a brother-in-law, Bob Blythe, of Cassville; three sisters, Bonnie and Beulah Harris, of Cassville and Verla Beachboard, of Kansas City, Kansas; a sister-in-law, Mildred Harris, of Monett; 14 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Ray Harris; two sisters, Velma Davis and Vera Blythe; two sons, Lyndell and Tony Harris and two daughters, Joyce and Judy Harris.
Rudolph received his formal education in the Pasley School in Cassville. He received his true education in the woods of Barry County. At the age of 18 he joined the United States Navy and served for two years. He retired from the Post Office and was a self-employed logger. Rudolph was an outdoorsman. He loved playing golf, coon hunting, fishing and his garden. In his teen years he was baptized into Christ along side his father and his older brother, Ray. He not only served God through his church but also in his everyday life through his community and every person that he met. He was a long time member of the Washburn Church of Christ.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, October 30, 2008, in the Family Life Center, Cassville under direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville. Burial with military honors will be in Corinth Cemetery, Cassville. Randy Harris and Ken West will conduct the services.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today (Wednesday) in Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville.
Contributions may be made to the Fair Haven Children's Home in care of Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville, in memory of Rudolph.
