The Southwest volleyball team defeated Purdy in its final Ozark 7 Conference match last week and finished the year 3-3 in league play.
After three years of 5-1 records and a conference championship in 2007, the Lady Trojans finished lower than second for the first time in four years.
"It has been a tough year," said Coach Steve Voyak. "We suffered more missed games for injuries on the varsity than any time in my six years as coach. We have had a starter missing in 20 of our 30 matches.
That's pretty significant, but the girls have stepped up and played out of position. It's just tough to be consistent," Coach Voyak added.
In the win over Purdy, senior Briana Stephens had seven attacks, while Heather Skidmore added three. Senior setter Tasha Barnett has seven assists in the match.
Earlier in the week, the Lady Trojans lost to Blue Eye 25-17, 25-18.
In JV action, Southwest won its third match and second in league play. Rachael Colf had 10 service points and four aces as the Lady Trojans downed Purdy. The JV improved its overall record to 3-18-3.
The varsity has a record of 7-19-2 going into the final week of the season. Southwest plays host to Exeter for Family Night and Sarcoxie for Senior Night. There will be three matches against Exeter, but varsity only against Sarcoxie.
Four seniors, Tasha Barnett, Briana Stephens, Susan Blakey and Tina Schreiner, will be honored Thursday night.
Southwest opens district play against Sarcoxie at 6 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 27 at Diamond High School. The Lady Trojans are seeded fourth in the tournament, and Sarcoxie is the fifth seed. If the Lady Trojans advance, they face top-seeded College Heights in the semifinals at 6 p.m on Tuesday, Oct. 28.
