The Cassville Wildcat soccer team recorded a big win over Marshfield on the road Monday night. Cassville defeated their hosts 5-2 to earn a victory over a district opponent.
The Wildcats dominated the first half of play and led 3-0 at half. Marshfield was able to tally two goals in the second half but Cassville countered with two more goals of its own to put the game out of reach.
Senior Uziel Franco scored four goals in the game and Luis Ortega recorded one.
Last Thursday, the Wildcats travelled to Carthage and lost 1-5 against a perennial powerhouse.
At halftime, the Tigers led 2-0. Cassville got on the board once in the second half when Franco found the back of the net, but Carthage added three more to its goal total for a lopsided win.
"In both games, we are showing signs of becoming comfortable with new positioning to address player loss," said Coach Brian Wilbanks.
The five goals Franco scored this week boosts his career goal total to 73, which puts him within five of surpassing the school record of 77 career goals set by Ryan Schlichtman last season.
Cassville (8-6) will host Carl Junction on Thursday and hopes to avenge an earlier season loss. The Wildcats also travel to play Greenwood next Monday, Oct. 20.
