SW runners continue winning

Thursday, October 16, 2008

On Tuesday, Sept. 30, the Southwest boys fought to a third place finish at the East Newton Invitational. Running against all classes in the 14-team field, the Trojans earned three individual medals in following College Heights and East Newton in the team standings.

Jacob Jennings and Caleb Mitchell placed ninth and 10th respectively, and senior Luke Hackett finished 16th in what Coach Stubblefield called "his best race ever as a Trojan."

Kyle Buttrum and Dillon Alley placed 33rd and 34th, while B.J. Wilson was 67th to complete the Southwest entry.

The Trojans finally got a week's rest between meets, and then dominated the Diamond Invitational on Oct. 7. Running on a rough course in a cold drizzle, Southwest runners claimed the first four positions and missed a perfect score by one point.

Jacob Jennings won the meet for the first time in his high school career. He was followed by Mitchell, Hackett and Alley in second through fourth places. Buttrum finished seventh and Wilson was 17th.
