Ladycats defeat Monett for big conference win

The Ladycat volleyball squad picked up two big wins this past week, including a huge Big 8 Conference over Monett.

Cassville defeated the Lady Cubs 25-14, 9-25, 25-18 last Thursday. The win was the result of an overall team effort. Olivia Cline recorded six assists, two aces and 11 digs while Chelsea Addison tallied 11 digs. Naomi Beck also had a strong game with eight kills and five blocks.

The Ladycats also picked up a win against Blue Eye by scores of 27-25 and 26-24. Leaders in that match were: Marti Richmiller with four assists and three kills; Beck with three kills and one block; Cline with one block and three aces; and Emily Orrell with 15 digs.

Cassville lost two games to Lamar (23-25, 18-25) and to Aurora (19-25, 22-25). Team leaders in those two games were: Richmiller, nine kills, five assists and two aces; Cline, 11 assists and two aces; Beck, three blocks; Orrell, 25 digs; Emily Pry, one block, and Addison, one ace.

The Ladycats are now 5-10-3 for the season and 1-0 in the Big 8 Conference.

The junior varsity squad recently competed in the Diamond JV Tournament and placed third. Cassville players named to the All-Tournament team included Rylie Wilks, Shelbi Shipman and Amanda Allison.

The junior varsity also defeated Blue Eye 25-23, 25-18 as well as Lamar 25-19, 25-22 this past week.

The Ladycats play at Carl Junction next Thursday and Mt. Vernon next Tuesday before ending the 2008 regular season with three back-to-back home games against Lamar (Oct. 16), Aurora (Oct. 21) and Seneca (Oct. 23).

The team is coached by Mandy Henry who is assisted by Desiree Corn.
