Sara E. Mattingly, 85, of Cassville, formerly of Exeter, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2008, in Barry County Care Center, Cassville.

She was born May 7, 1923, in Benton County, Ark., the daughter of Russell and Dortha (Still) Howell. On April 18, 1942, in Exeter, she was united in marriage to Walter R. Mattingly, who preceded her in death on Jan. 30, 2005. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and a sister.

Survivors include: three daughters, Carol Sue Harper and her husband, Jerry, of Exeter, Becky Brown and her husband, Larry, of Marion-ville, and Donna Hensley and her husband, Calvin, of Mano; a brother, C.M. Howell and his wife, Joann, of Mountain Home, Ark.; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She graduated from Exeter High School. She was a lifelong resident of the Exeter area and secretary for the superintendent of Exeter School District for 25 years.

She was a member of the Exeter First Baptist Church.

Graveside services were held Saturday at Maplewood Cemetery, Exeter, under direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville. Rev. Jerry Yarnall conducted the services.

Contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital in honor of her great- grandson, Coy Harper, a survivor.
