The Cassville Ladycat volleyball squad had a big reason to celebrate this weekend. The team was able to record three wins on its way to claiming the Southwest Volleyfest championship title.

Cassville split games with Shiloh Christian (26-24, 24-26) and Blue Eye (25-22, 22-25) and defeated Huntsville (25-21, 25-15) and Forsyth (25-14, 25-20) to advance to the championship game against Shiloh Christian.

It took three games for the Ladycats to claim the title. The squad came out strong and won the first game 25-23. In the second game, Shiloh Christian earned a 19-25 win. In the final game, the Ladycats were able to get on top and win 15-9.

Team leaders in that game included: Marti Richmiller with six kills; Naomi Beck with six kills and five blocks; Emily Orrell with 11 digs; and Olivia Cline with seven assists and four aces.

"We were very excited," said Coach Mandy Henry. "It was a good day that hopefully will help us build some confidence. The girls did a wonderful job."

Statistical leaders for the four other tournament games combined were: Richmiller, 27 kills, seven assists, seven digs and two blocks; Cline, 27 assists, six digs, six aces; Beck, nine blocks and five aces; Chelsea Addison, six digs, one block and two aces; Risa Darveaux, eight digs and one block; Emily Pry, five blocks; and Belinda Long, six digs and two aces.

At the conclusion of the Volleyfest, an all-tournament team was named. Both Cline and Richmiller earned All-Tournament honors.

Last Thursday in regular season play, the Ladycats dropped a Big 8 Conference game to East Newton 15-25, 13-25. In that game, Richmiller recorded four kills and one ace, Cline had five assists, Addison tallied seven digs, Beck had one ace and one block and Orrell earned one ace.

The Ladycats record now stands at 3-8-3. The team's next home game is against Monett on Oct. 2.
