The Purdy Eagles baseball squad won the Exeter Tournament and boosted its record to 7-1 with wins over Wheaton, Exeter and Hurley this weekend.
In the opening game against Wheaton, Daniel Barrientos threw a no-hitter and the Eagles downed the Bulldogs 13-0. Barrientos also helped himself out at the plate, going two-for-two with two RBI. Cody Hall and Reese Stevenson also had two hits. Kevin Miller had an outstanding game, going three-for-three with five RBI.
Purdy also had no trouble dispatching their hosts. The Eagles beat Exeter 10-0. Riley Veith was the winning pitcher. He only allowed three hits and struck out seven. Veith and Mason Roller had two hits each, and Miller again had a strong game at the plate, going three-for-four with three RBI.
The tournament championship game between Purdy and Hurley proved a bit more challenging.
In the sixth inning, the Eagles found themselves down by one run. With two outs, Purdy came up with two hits and a walk to tie the game at 8-8.
In the seventh, Cody Hall lead off with a single, and after a strikeout, Stevenson singled to move Hall to third. Riley Veith got a hit, which brought in the winning run.
Landon Terry pitched the first four innings of the game for Purdy, and Daniel Burnside came in to relieve. Roller took over in the sixth and seventh innings.
Against Hurley, Stevenson and Chris Bennett went three-for-four. Trent Goetz, Roller and Barrientos each tallied two hits.
