I've seen fire and I've seen rain

Thursday, September 18, 2008

Dear Editor:

We would like to thank the Eagle Rock/Golden/Mano and Holiday Island Fire Departments for all their effort in trying to put out the fire that broke out about 12:40 a.m. on Aug. 25 at Pierson's Package and the Office Pub & Steakhouse in Eagle Rock.

They did an awesome job trying to save the two businesses, with bottles exploding around them and intense heat of around 1,800 degrees in the store (according to the investigator). They fought endlessly for several hours. Unfor-tunately the store was destroyed and the Pub and dining room suffered charred rafters and smoke damage.

All of the employees would also like to thank the fire department for the benefit they put on to help with their financial loss. The department had a car wash, BBQ and bake sale. Even in the rain the community came out to get their car washed and help out; the community spirit here is so strong I am proud to be a part of it. A special thanks to Cliff Mitchell for letting them use his parking lot.

We would also like to thank the family, friends and community for helping us out by donating food, support and the use of a travel trailer that we are camping out in for awhile and using as a temporary office. Also thanks to Shumaker Tire for the use of a trailer for temporary storage for all the contents that we were able salvage in the restaurant.

We will be rebuilding everything ASAP and will keep you posted on the reopening date. Thank you all so much.
