The Cassville Wildcat cross country team opened the 2008 season at the very competitive Carthage Invitational. Coach Chris Shore said the meet featured a large field of big schools and top competition.

Tia Baker competed in the varsity girls division and was Cassville's top finisher in that event at 48th. Her time was 25:14. In the junior varsity girls division, sophomore Jessica Barrientos medaled in eighth place. Her time on the shortened two-mile course was 14:39.

In the junior varsity boys division, Jeremy Ashwell finished 23rd with a time of 12:47. Gage Holloway ended one place out of the medals in the freshmen boys division. He finished 11th with a time of 12:47.

Several junior high runners also competed at Carthage. Tori Holder was the top Cassville finisher for the girls. She medaled in fifth place with a time of 10:55 on the mile-and-a-half course. Wil LeCompte led the boys' team, finishing 43rd in a time of 11:38.

"It was a good meet to see where we are at against tough competition," said Coach Shore.

Cassville runners competed at Monett on Tuesday and will travel to Nixa for a meet on Sept. 23.
