James Albert Henbest, 91, of Aurora, formerly of Cassville, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2008, in Aurora Nursing Center, Aurora.
He was born June 18, 1917, in Cassville, the son of Edward and Dora J. (Beck) Henbest. On Jan. 29, 1966, he was united in marriage to Nancy Ward, who survives.
Additional survivors include: a son, James Edward Henbest and his wife, Leah, of Verona; three stepsons, Raymond D. Jagger and his wife, Charlene, of Kirksville, William M. Jagger and his wife, Dana, of Cynthiana, Ky. and Ricky Joe Jagger, of Ridgley; two brothers, Dale Henbest and his wife, Lucille of Farmersville, Texas, and Donald Henbest and his wife, Glenda Sue, of Westminster, Texas; a sister, Grace Smith, of Galena, Kan.; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and two brothers.
He received his education at Horner and Oak Ridge schools and was a lifelong resident of the Cassville area. During World War II he served in the United States Army and received a Bronze Star while stationed in New Guinea. He worked until his retirement at Roaring River State Park.
He was of the Baptist faith.
Graveside services with military honors were held at Friday at Horner Cemetery, Cassville, under direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville. Rev. Bob Neeley conducted the services.
