Barry County crash leaves teens hurt

Last Wednesday, two teens and three youngsters were injured in a one-vehicle crash on County Road 1090 two and a half miles south of Monett.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred when a 1994 Pontiac, driven by Samantha Elkins, 18, of Seligman, ran off the roadway and struck a fence and a culvert.

Elkins, who was moderately injured in the crash, was taken to Cox South Hospital in Springfield. Her passengers, Bridgett Elkins, 11, Austin Rivera, 6, and Tyler Smith, 6, all of Butterfield, and James Tannery, 19, of Cassville, who all sustained minor injuries in the crash, were taken to Cox Monett Hospital.

The Patrol report indicated that none of the injured teens or youngsters were wearing seat belts when the crash occurred at 8:55 p.m.
