The Southwest R-V School Board held a tax rate hearing prior to its regularly scheduled board meeting on Aug. 14.
During the tax rate hearing Superintendent Doug Lawyer presented the district's assessed valuations, which are $27,526,962 for Barry County and $4,782,031 for McDonald County.
Last year, the tax rate was set at $2.75 for the operational fund and 85 cents for the debt service fund. In order to maintain a proper balance in the debt service fund and accommodate bond payments, Lawyer recommended the debt service levy remain at 85 cents for the 2008-09 school year.
The board approved the $2.75 operational levy and the 85 cent debt service levy for the 2008-09 school year before moving into its regular board meeting.
After reviewing administrative reports, which included information on curriculum units, preschool screening, maintenance projects, MAP scores and identification badges, the board voted to increase the Central Bank credit card limit to $25,000.
In new business, the board reviewed a $3.285 escalating gasoline bid, a $3.61 escalating diesel bid and a $1.949 firm propane bid from MFA of Purdy. The propane bid requires 100 percent prepay.
The board approved the propane bid and declined the escalating gasoline and diesel bids.
