DOROTHY L. CURRY PETERSON
Dorothy L. Curry Peterson, age 81, of Cassville, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, August 27, 2008, in Cox Walnut Lawn, Springfield, Missouri.
She was born September 18, 1926, the daughter of William Elmer and Frances Elizabeth (Ball) Cooper. She was united in marriage to Paul Spencer Curry August 19, 1947, and to this union two children were born. Paul preceded her in death on November 15, 1980. On December 9, 1991, in Purdy, Missouri, she married Donald Peterson, who preceded her in death on August 8, 2003. She was also preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her children, Deborah Lawson and her husband, Chip of Nixa, Missouri and Paul S. "Spencer" Curry of Grand Island, Nebraska; One brother, Charles Cooper, Cassville; five sisters, Edna Moore of Cassville; Lucille Holman of Raymore, Missouri, Norma Swindell of McKinney, Texas, Fredalene Horner of Cassville and Fayedola Hilton of Republic, Missouri; five grandchildren, Jennifer Duncan and her husband, Jay of Lantana, Texas, Lindsay Rallo and her husband, Mike of O'Fallon, Missouri, Christopher Lawson and his wife, April of Springfield, Missouri, Specialist Paul Curry stationed in Iraq and Danielle Curry of Chadron, Nebraska; three great grandchildren, Grace Duncan, Kate Duncan and Nicholas Rallo; the Don Peterson family and special friend Lee McGaughay of Branson, Missouri and family friend, Larry Westpheling and family of Cassville, Missouri.
Dorothy graduated from Cassville High School and continued her education at SMS in Springfield. She transferred to the University of Arkansas where she received her Bachelor of Science Degree and later continued graduate work in England. She taught elementary school for 38 ½ years, teaching at Mt. Zion on two occasions, Eagle Rock, Oak Ridge, Corinth, Seligman, Southwest at Washburn and Purdy. She loved to teach, travel, read and be with her family. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Cassville, Sarah II Ladies Sunday School Class, Kappa Kappa Iota Society and The Red Hat Society.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Saturday, August 30, 2008, in First Baptist Church, Cassville, Missouri, under the direction of Fohn Funeral Home. Reverend James Weaver conducted the services. Burial was at Munsey Cemetery, Eagle Rock, Missouri.
The family received friends from 6 until 8 p.m., Friday, August 29 in Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville. Memorials in memory of Dorothy may be made to Cassville First Baptist Church Childrens' Department.
