The Barry-Lawrence County Local Emergency Planning District (LEPD) discussed several upcoming events and training opportunities at its regularly scheduled meeting on July 17.
LEPD members discussed an expenditure that would cover tuition and other expenses for the Four Corners Emergency Management Conference, which will be held in Branson Dec. 10 through Dec. 12.
Barry County Emergency Management Director David Compton volunteered to contact the Missouri Emergency Response Commission (MERC) to see if the event is an appropriate expenditure.
Other upcoming events include the United States Environmental Protection Agency's Region Three Conference in Richmond, Va., which will be held Oct. 26 through Oct. 29, and the Missouri Hazardous Materials Symposium, which will be held at Osage Beach Dec. 11 through Dec. 14.
The local district continues to host hazardous material training classes, which can be scheduled by calling 417-235-0200. Classes cover hazardous material awareness and operations training.
In new business, Compton reported that long-time LEPD member Gene Mulvaney passed away recently. Mulvaney was one of the organizing members of the local district.
In other business, the Barry-Lawrence LEPD:
* Voted to pay $2,400 for University of Missouri LP Gas classes that were held in Freistatt and Shell Knob.
* Heard that the hazardous materials fire that occurred at Weiser Tent in Monett was cleaned up and run-off concerns were addressed under the supervision of the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.
